Frequently Asked Questions

  • Mono stringer: One central steel spine supports the treads for a clean, minimalist look.
  • Double stringer: Two steel stringers (often on each side or spaced under the treads) for a more substantial, architectural feel and added rigidity.
  • Cantilever: Treads project from a wall/structural support with no visible stringer on the open side. This is the most “floating” look and typically requires specific structural conditions.

Stainless steel, always. Lake humidity, prolonged moisture exposure, and the salt residue carried in from Puget Sound on summer winds all attack lesser metals. The lifespan difference on a waterfront deck is decades.

Medina projects sit at the top of our pricing range. The combination of 316-grade hardware, low-iron glass, custom finishes, architect-spec drawings, and engineering work pushes per-linear-foot pricing well above standard residential numbers. We provide itemized written quotes so every line is visible.

It depends on your priorities:

  • Glass: best for uninterrupted views and a high-end modern aesthetic
  • Cable: best for an open look with a lighter feel and lower visual footprint
  • Metal: best for durability, design flexibility, and a wide range of styles

Much of Redmond's recent residential construction is contemporary, with open floor plans and clean lines, and glass railings are the natural fit for that style. On an open-tread stair or a loft overlook, glass keeps the sightlines uninterrupted in a way wood balusters cannot, which is usually the whole reason the home was designed that way. Builders and homeowners across Education Hill, Grass Lawn, and the newer infill developments specify glass for exactly that reason, so it has become close to a default rather than an upgrade in this part of the Eastside.

Most older Kirkland homes work fine. Some 1960s and 70s decks need rim reinforcement before we can mount post hardware properly.

Often, yes. Our fabrication shop and showroom are right here in Kent at 18642 68th Ave S, so there is no travel surcharge on Kent projects the way there would be on a job in Cle Elum or out on the peninsula. We can usually schedule the measure visit and the installation sooner than for work farther out, because the crew is not losing hours to drive time. And if you want to see glass panels and hardware finishes in person before you commit, you are only a few minutes from the showroom. Being local is a real advantage on a Kent job, not just a marketing line.
