Can you match cable railings to my older home’s woodwork or existing railings?
Yes, and it is some of our favorite work in Tacoma. We fabricate posts and top rails in the same shop as our glass and metal railings, so matching a wood cap to restored craftsman woodwork, a powder-coat color, or an existing post profile is straightforward. On older North End homes we also assess the structural backing on the site visit, since porches and decks from the early 1900s do not always have framing where the posts need to anchor. Send us a photo of what is there and we will match the look.
How much maintenance do cable railings need?
Very little. Stainless cable railings need an occasional wipe-down and a periodic check of the cable tension, and quality hardware tensioned correctly at install holds for years. On a Tacoma home near the water, the main upkeep is rinsing the salt film off the cables and posts so the stainless keeps its finish. There is none of the staining, sealing, or repainting a wood baluster railing demands, which matters on a salt-air exposed deck.
