About
Custom and Automated Metal Gates in Seattle
A gate is the first thing a Seattle property presents to the street, and it has to do two jobs at once: set the tone of the home and control who comes in. From a driveway gate on a steep West Seattle lot to a walk gate on a Capitol Hill townhome, we design and build each one to the property.
From our Kent shop we fabricate fully custom gates, build prefab horizontal slat gates, and set vertical gates in custom or prefab form, in steel, aluminum, or a metal frame with wood infill, and we automate swing or slide gates so they open on their own.
We build our Seattle gates in collaboration with Fences & Gates Pro, pairing their gate and access experience with the in-house metal fabrication and automation we handle ourselves.
What We Build
Gate Designs: Custom, Prefab Horizontal Slat, and Vertical
Whatever the entrance calls for, one of these three builds fits it, and all can be automated.
Custom Fabricated Gates
Custom fabricated gates are welded to any style you want, ornamental, modern, or a match to an existing fence, for a driveway or a walk gate that is truly one of a kind.
Prefab Horizontal Slat Gates
Prefab horizontal slat gates carry the clean, modern look of a slat fence in an efficient prefab build, a fast route to a contemporary Seattle entrance.
Vertical Gates, Custom or Prefab
Vertical gates run pickets top to bottom in the classic upright line, offered custom fabricated for an exact match or as a quality prefab panel for a straightforward opening.
Slat Materials
Gate Materials: Aluminum, Steel, or Wood Infill
A gate takes more stress than a fence, so the material is chosen for both looks and daily duty.
Aluminum and Steel Gates
Aluminum keeps a gate light and rust-free for easy swing and low upkeep in the Seattle wet, while steel brings the strength a wide driveway gate or a security entrance needs. Both take a durable powder-coat.
Metal Frame with Wood Infill
A metal frame with real wood infill pairs a strong, true-swinging steel or aluminum frame with natural cedar or hardwood boards, the choice when you want genuine wood warmth on a gate that still holds its shape.
Privacy Levels
Privacy, Semi Privacy, or Open and Architectural Gates
A gate can screen the entrance completely or simply mark it, set by how the infill is spaced.
Privacy
Solid or tightly spaced infill gives a driveway or courtyard gate full privacy, blocking the view in from the sidewalk or street.
Semi Privacy
A measured gap keeps sightlines mostly screened while letting light through, a balanced look for a front walk gate.
Open & Architectural
Open, ornamental spacing makes the gate an architectural statement that defines the entrance without hiding the home behind it.
Automation
Automated Swing and Slide Gates in Seattle
Both driveway gate types can be fully automated so you never leave the car. We build and install the automation, then set it up to open the way you prefer, by remote, keypad code, intercom, a wall button, or a sensor that reads your vehicle.
Swing Gates
Swing gates hinge open like a door, the classic driveway look, ideal where the drive is fairly level and there is room for the gate to arc open.
Slide Gates
Slide gates roll to the side along the fence line, the answer for a short driveway, a sloped approach, or anywhere a swing gate would not have room to open.
Every automated gate includes safety sensors that stop and reverse it if something is in the way, and we can add entry options like a keypad, intercom, or remote so guests and deliveries get in without trouble.
Laser Cut Panels
Custom Laser Cut Panels for Seattle Gates
We also laser cut custom metal panels into gates, so a Seattle entrance can carry a house number, a monogram, or a one-off pattern. The panels build into both custom fabricated and prefab gates, and this work is done in collaboration with Fences & Gates Pro.

Communities and New Builds
Working With Seattle HOAs and New Construction
Many Seattle townhome developments and gated communities have rules on gate height, style, and automation. We provide drawings and finish samples so your gate clears the association’s review without a second round.
On a new build we coordinate the gate and its automation with your builder, running any needed conduit before the driveway is finished so the entrance works from day one.

Posted on Google Kristina G.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We're so thrilled with our new stair railings! Custom Railings WA and Mike's team did a high quality job from start to finish. We got the black powder coat finish with hemlock handrail in natural stain, which looks so elegant (see attached photos). The powder coat finish is really attractive, and we like that it's durable and not easily scratched. We were a little nervous that the wood color/characteristics on the top rail might turn out to be inconsistent across such a long run of railing, but the hand rails on all of the railings match beautifully. Thank you, Mike and team for taking such great care of us! Our new stairs are the perfect touch for our new farmhouse.Posted on Google Adele FesanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We used this company for the second time, and this was our first time ordering railing for an outdoor deck. The service was absolutely outstanding from start to finish. Communication was excellent, the team was easy to work with, and everything was completed exactly on schedule. The installation crew was highly professional, respectful, and left the area clean after completing the job. It was truly a pleasure working with a company that operates with such care and professionalism. The quality of the railing is top-notch — a very high-end product that exceeded our expectations. We would highly recommend this company and will definitely use them again in the future.Posted on Google Leyla HasanovaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We ordered glass railings for our parents’ home in Seattle. We were choosing between two options, glass or modern metal railings, and in the end we decided to go with glass. We’re extremely happy with that choice. The team helped us understand the differences, guided us through the design, and completed the installation on time. The railings look amazing. Great experience overall!Posted on Google Zamina BabayevaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. From the first day, they were professional and easy to work with. Mike always replied quickly, and the team made sure every detail was just how I wanted. In the end, we got beautiful glass railings that fit perfectly with our modern home in Bellevue. Thank you, Custom Railings WA, for making the whole process smooth and enjoyable!Posted on Google J BTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had such a good experience getting outdoor railings for my front concrete steps and for my stone steps in the back garden. I had put off doing this for so long and thought that railings might detract from the aesthetic look of my yard, but I was so wrong. I absolutely love my new railings, and loved working with all the guys who came out - to measure, to bend the metal and dig post holes, and finally to install the finished railings. Thank you!Posted on Google Jill SprattTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had a wonderful experience with Mike and his crew at Custom Railings WA. We have beautiful new railings thanks to Custom Railings. Good communication, beautiful product, and they made sure everything was clean before they left. I will definitely use them again in the future!Posted on Google Cathy MooreTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had a great experience with Custom Railings WA. They replaced our outdated railing with a new custom designed railing that fit our dreams and our budget. Communication was always clear and timely. They even worked around the chaotic schedule of other contractors working on our bigger remodeling project that impacted when the railing could be installed. Very Happy with our railing.

Frequently Asked Questions
What material is best for a Seattle gate?
CustomRailingsWA2026-07-28T11:05:32-07:00It depends on the gate and the look. Aluminum stays light and rust-free, which helps a swing gate move easily in the wet; steel brings strength for a wide or security gate; a wood-infill frame adds warmth without the upkeep of solid wood. We match the material to the size, the use, and the exposure of your entrance.
Can the gate match my existing fence?
CustomRailingsWA2026-07-28T11:05:06-07:00Yes, and it is one of the advantages of building both in-house. We match the gate's material, profile, and powder-coat color to an existing fence, whether that is a slat, ornamental, or vertical design, so the entrance reads as part of the line rather than a bolted-on afterthought.
Can you automate the gate so it opens on its own?
CustomRailingsWA2026-07-28T11:04:31-07:00Yes. Both swing and slide gates can be fully automated, and we build and install the automation as part of the project. You can open the gate by remote, a keypad code, an intercom, a wall button, or a sensor that detects your vehicle, whatever fits how you use the entrance. Every automated gate also gets safety sensors that stop it if something is in the way.
Should I get a swing gate or a slide gate for my Seattle driveway?
CustomRailingsWA2026-07-28T11:04:03-07:00It comes down to the driveway. A swing gate suits a fairly level drive with room for the gate to arc open, and it gives the classic look. A slide gate rolls along the fence line, which is the better choice for a short driveway, a sloped approach common on Seattle hills, or a spot where a swing gate would hit the incline. We look at your entrance and recommend the one that will work smoothly.
