About Metal Awnings

Metal Awnings in Kirkland, WA

Kirkland works on two levels at once: a dense waterfront scene along Lake Washington where restaurants and boutiques line the marina, and a broad residential base spread across hillside neighborhoods from Houghton to Juanita to Kingsgate. Those two contexts produce different awning requirements, and we build for both.

Waterfront and near-waterfront properties need hardware specified for moisture. Restaurants on Central Way need clean commercial fabrication that can take a power wash and still look sharp in year ten. Residential homes across Kirkland’s hillside neighborhoods need structures sized for varied lot configurations and roof pitches. We build every awning from scratch in our Kent shop and install it ourselves, so all three situations are straightforward for us.

Custom Metal Awnings

Custom Metal Awnings for Kirkland Homes and Businesses

Kirkland’s growth has changed the city’s exterior architecture considerably. Older ranchers and mid-century homes in Houghton and Norkirk sit next to new construction townhomes and renovated craftsmen. The commercial strip along Central Way has added new restaurants and retail year over year. None of those applications fit a single prefab solution, and most of the interesting projects we get from Kirkland require something built to a specific dimension or finish standard.

We have installed awnings on century-old homes where the entry width was 52 inches and nothing off a shelf came close, and on new construction restaurants where the architect’s finish schedule called for a specific RAL powder-coat color. Both of those jobs started with a site visit, a measurement, and a drawing. That is how all our Kirkland work begins.

Kirkland’s restaurant and retail corridor on Central Way is one of the most active dining streets on the Eastside. The businesses there turn over customers quickly and the entries take constant foot traffic, rain runoff, and daily cleaning. Full aluminum awnings built to commercial spec handle that environment indefinitely. Fabric awnings in that same setting need maintenance inside of five years.

  • Restaurant and cafe entry awnings along Central Way and Lake Street South
  • Waterfront home entry canopies in Moss Bay and Houghton
  • Totem Lake commercial and medical building entry covers
  • Covered drop-off canopies on Kirkland office and mixed-use buildings
  • Multi-family building entry awnings in Juanita and South Kirkland
  • Retail storefront awnings near Kirkland Urban and the downtown core

Metal and Plexiglass Awnings

Metal Awnings with Plexiglass in Kirkland, WA

Kirkland has a lot of mature tree canopy, particularly in the older residential neighborhoods east of the lake in Norkirk, Bridle Trails, and the Everest area. When deciduous trees overhang a deck or entry, falling branches and seasonal debris become a real consideration in material selection. Polycarbonate panels absorb that kind of impact without cracking, which makes them the practical choice for properties with significant tree exposure. For hillside homes in Kingsgate and South Kirkland with elevated rear decks and long-span patio covers, polycarbonate is also the structural answer. The panels weigh a fraction of glass at the same span, which allows a slimmer frame profile and keeps the view lines cleaner. On a west-facing deck looking out toward the lake, that matters.
  • Wide deck and patio covers on hillside homes in Kingsgate and Everest
  • Properties with significant tree canopy in Norkirk and Bridle Trails
  • Side-entry and driveway covers on mid-century homes throughout Houghton
  • Outdoor dining covers for Kirkland restaurants on Lake Street and Marina Park
  • Covered walkways and breezeway connections on larger residential properties
  • Entry canopies for Totem Lake medical offices and commercial buildings

Kirkland Neighborhoods We Serve

Downtown Kirkland and the Marina district generate most of our commercial work in this city. The restaurants and retailers along Central Way, Lake Street South, and around Kirkland Urban handle high customer volume and need entry coverage that holds up to daily use without constant upkeep. Metal is the obvious answer in that environment.

Farther east, Juanita, Kingsgate, and the Everest neighborhood are a mix of mid-century ramblers, renovated craftsmen, and newer builds on larger lots. The awning requests there run toward covered entries, rear patio covers, and in some cases full carport structures. Those jobs are straightforward but they do require site visits because the lot configurations and existing roof pitches vary considerably.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, and this is something we do regularly for Kirkland clients who already have railings from us or from another fabricator. Because we build railings and awnings in the same shop, matching powder-coat finish, aluminum profile size, and hardware style is a standard part of our design process. Many Kirkland homeowners order an awning and new deck railings at the same time to get a unified exterior. If you have existing metalwork, bring us a photo and we will get the finish as close as possible.

For waterfront properties in Kirkland's Houghton and Moss Bay areas, we use stainless steel fasteners and standoffs. The aluminum frame itself does not rust, but the connection points where the awning meets the building are where cheaper hardware fails first.

We provide free on-site estimates, and the number we give you is based on your actual project, not a range from a phone call.
