How long does a hand finished railing take to complete?
It depends entirely on the scale of the commission and the depth of the hand work, and we will give you a clear schedule once the design is settled. Design and shop drawings come first, then fabrication, then hand finishing, which on a luxury piece is a substantial stage in its own right.
Can the railing coordinate with our exterior metalwork?
Yes. Since we fabricate railings, gates, and fencing in the same shop, we can carry one design language and finish from an entry gate through to the interior staircase, which suits homes where the entry sequence is part of the architecture.
What is the difference between the simple and luxury tiers?
Simple ornamental holds a clean structure and adds character through selected forged details. Luxury ornamental is drawn specifically for your staircase, with flowing scrollwork, sculpted florals, and hand painted or gilded finishing applied element by element. Both are custom made; the luxury tier carries far more design and hand finishing work.
Will an ornamental railing block the light in my stairwell?
Not if the design accounts for it, which is exactly the conversation we have on a Clyde Hill project. Ornamental work can be composed with generous open space between elements so light passes through freely, with the detail concentrated at the newels, the handrail, and a few feature panels rather than spread densely across every baluster.
