About Floating Stairs

Custom Floating Stairs in Renton, WA

A floating staircase is one of the few changes that transforms how an entire floor of a house feels. Removing the risers and the closed framing opens up a room in a way that new flooring or paint simply cannot.

We design and fabricate custom floating stairs across Renton in mono stringer, double stringer, and cantilever configurations, with matching railings included. Our Kent shop is minutes away, so measuring, delivery, and any adjustment stay straightforward.

Our Renton floating stairs are built in collaboration with Floating Stairs Seattle, our sister company, combining their staircase experience with the railings we fabricate just up the road in Kent.

Three structural approaches at three different levels of complexity, and we will tell you straight which one your opening actually suits.

Mono Stringer Stairs

Treads are supported by one central steel stringer.

  • Clean and modern profile
  • Open feel with less steel
  • Strong support for daily use

The most economical route to a genuine floating stair, and the one that suits the majority of Renton openings.

Double Stringer Stairs

Treads are supported by two steel stringers.

  • Very strong support system
  • Great for wider stair runs
  • Stable feel underfoot daily

Costs more in steel but earns it on a wider run or a busy family staircase where a solid feel underfoot matters.

Cantilever Stairs

Treads are anchored into a structural wall support.

  • True floating stair effect
  • Minimal visible structure
  • Most open appearance

The most demanding and most expensive option, entirely dependent on the supporting wall. We assess honestly whether it is viable.

Interior Floating Stairs

Interior Floating Stairs in Renton Homes

Interior floating stairs open up the ground floor of a house by removing the visual wall a conventional staircase creates. In the newer Renton homes with open upper floors, that change is immediately obvious from the entry.

We design the system around your layout, ceiling height, and finishes, matching tread thickness and profile to your flooring and trim. Being close by, we measure the actual opening rather than working from assumptions, which matters on a retrofit.

Exterior Floating Stairs

Exterior Floating Stairs in Renton

Exterior floating stairs link decks and garden levels without the bulk of conventional framing, which is useful on the hillside lots around Talbot Hill and the Highlands where a heavy stair structure dominates a small yard.

Outdoor systems use durable steel stringers, non slip treads, and finishes specified for the Renton wet so the assembly holds up without constant attention. Matching glass, cable, or metal railings complete it.

Stairs and Railings Together

Floating Stairs and Railings From One Local Source

Sourcing a staircase and a balustrade separately is where mismatched finishes and awkward junctions come from, and it also means two suppliers pointing at each other when something does not line up. We handle both.

Floating Stairs Seattle brings dedicated staircase experience to the structure while our Kent shop fabricates the railings, and being close to Renton keeps the whole project easy to coordinate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, and that is deliberate. We fabricate the railings ourselves, so the balustrade is designed alongside the staircase and finished to match rather than being sourced separately and fitted afterward. Glass, cable, and metal are all options.

It does. Our Kent shop is minutes away, so measuring, delivering, and returning for adjustments is quicker than for a fabricator crossing the region, and there is no travel charge on a Renton job. On a stair fitted to an existing opening, being able to come back easily is worth a lot.

Often yes, though it depends on the opening, the surrounding structure, and the clearances available. A retrofit is a bigger job than a new build installation because the existing framing has to come out and the new structure has to be supported properly. We measure the actual opening before quoting so the number reflects your house.

A mono stringer, generally. One central steel spine uses less material than a double stringer and needs far less structural provision than a cantilever, while still giving a genuine floating look with open risers. For most Renton openings it is the sensible starting point, and we will say so rather than pushing the more expensive option.
